Iloilo city: The Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) is inviting gun owners to avail of the two-day License to Own and Possess Firearms (LTOPF) caravan that kicked off here Thursday. 'We encourage all firearm holders to take advantage of this opportunity to legalize their firearms. This initiative is part of our continuing effort to reduce loose firearms and strengthen public safety. Let us work together because safety is everyone's responsibility,' ICPO Director, Col. Wilbert Parilla, said in a statement.
According to Philippines News Agency, the activity is intended for barangay officials and employees of the city government but will also cater to other applicants on a first-come, first-served basis. It is also an opportunity for those who would like to purchase firearms because an LTOPF certificate is needed when buying one from gun dealers, he said.
Parilla said barangay officials must bring their oath of office as proof that they are barangay officials, and the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) copy of their birth certificate. He said it is going to be a one-stop shop where applicants can attend the gun safety seminar, avail of the neuro-psychiatric examination, drug testing, barangay clearance, and national police clearance, subject to corresponding fees.
The caravan, led by the ICPO, in partnership with the Iloilo City Government and the Regional Civil Security Unit in Western Visayas, will be at the Iloilo City Nutrition Center, Gen. Luna Street, until Friday. Parilla said the campaign is part of ICPO's continuous efforts to promote peace and order in the city and eradicate the proliferation of loose firearms.
