Lucena: The new passenger terminal building (PTB) of the Port of Lucena is set to be completed and operational by the third quarter of the year, aiming to enhance both tourism and maritime transport in Quezon province.
According to Philippines News Agency, acting Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Giovanni Lopez announced that the modern PTB will have a seating capacity accommodating 1,000 passengers. Lopez emphasized the initiative aligns with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s directive to develop modern and passenger-friendly ports across the nation. "The directive of our President to us is to make modern and passenger-friendly ports. One example of the President's directive is the Port of Lucena, and we'll use this as a model for ports for the rest of the country," Lopez stated.
Lopez, along with Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) General Manager Jay Santiago and DOTr Undersecretary for Planning and Project Development Teodorico Delfin, conducted an inspection of the PTB on Wednesday. Santiago highlighted that the new facility is expected to benefit both locals and tourists, particularly those from neighboring provinces. "Once the PTB is complete, passengers would no longer feel cramped together and they will be able to easily book their tickets," Santiago explained.
The new PTB will include automated ticketing counters and solar panels to ensure a sustainable power supply. This development is anticipated to significantly improve the travel experience for passengers, offering greater comfort and efficiency.
