Iloilo City Lawmaker Applauds Marcos’ Anti-Corruption Efforts in Infrastructure

Iloilo city: Iloilo City Lone District Representative Julienne Baronda commended President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. for his directive to conduct a comprehensive audit of flood-control projects executed by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) during his State of the Nation Address (SONA) on Monday. "His reiteration of the proscription against graft and corruption involving infrastructure projects is a great move. You know that if you have nothing to hide and do not engage in graft, you would welcome this type of anti-corruption measure. Accountability in infrastructure is a welcome development," Baronda stated in a statement on Tuesday.

According to Philippines News Agency, Baronda also described as "wonderful news" for Ilonggos the President's directive for the Local Water Utilities Administration to enhance water access and services. She highlighted that Iloilo City faces a significant challenge, with 70 percent of the city lacking water supply. "Your lawmaker is pleased that President Bongbong Marcos Jr. addressed most, if not all, of the concerns close to our hearts in his SONA 2025," she added.

Baronda emphasized the necessity for additional evacuation centers, noting that Iloilo City recently inaugurated an PHP80 million evacuation center in Barangay San Isidro. She expressed optimism that Iloilo City would benefit from the President's plan to bolster industries and create more employment opportunities. Additionally, she welcomed the education reforms and health programs mentioned by Marcos in his SONA. "PBBM discussed other matters that have positive impacts, and I wish his administration to build on what has been accomplished in the next three years," she remarked.

Meanwhile, Lambunao, Iloilo Vice Mayor Arvin Losaria praised the President's "courage and stand on graft and corruption." As president of the Vice Mayors League of the Philippines, Iloilo chapter, Losaria noted that despite setbacks, the President's clear message about budget priorities in education, health, and infrastructure reflects a commitment to good governance. He further commented that the 4th SONA of President Marcos clearly articulated the current realities faced by the nation.
