Iloilo City Targets 15K Foot Traffic for Calle Real Night Market

Manila: Ilonggos, once again, will have a chance to partake of Iloilo's best flavors as the city government brings back its Calle Real Street Night Market on Aug. 29 to 31. The night market, with the participation of at least 60 food and non-food vendors, is one of the events to highlight the 88th charter anniversary celebration of Iloilo City.

According to Philippines News Agency, "This event will transform the Calle Real into a vibrant showcase of gastronomy, heritage, arts, and local enterprises," Iloilo Executive Assistant Jay Tre±as said in an interview on Thursday. The participating vendors consist of ambulant, mobile food cart/trucks, on-the-go food vendors, 'Kaon Ta Iloilo' members, grilled and barbecue vendors, as well as non-food vendors.

"The Calle Real Night Market stands as a flagship initiative showcasing Iloilo City and our commitment to inclusive economic growth and thriving local enterprises," Tre±as said. The event is projected to draw about 15,000 visitors over three nights, which will also feature performances of local artists.

During its previous runs, Tre±as said, the night market had attracted an estimated 61,000 visitors, generating more than PHP7.1 million in sales, providing a substantial boost to micro and small enterprises. It also helped promote local produce, artisanal products, and home-grown talents.

This edition's theme is 'Threads of Culture, Tastes of Tradition: A Feast of Heritage.'
