Iloilo city: The Iloilo City government has announced its decision to continue its energy conservation program, which has resulted in monthly savings of approximately PHP200,000 on electricity costs since its implementation in March. Mayor Raisa Tre±as confirmed this development during a press conference on Wednesday.

According to Philippines News Agency, Tre±as emphasized the city's commitment to energy efficiency by continuing to enforce Executive Order No. 030, which established the Energy Conservation Protocol. This initiative includes a four-day workweek and other measures to reduce electricity usage. The program involves regulating air-conditioning use, minimizing electricity consumption during lunch breaks, promoting virtual meetings, and optimizing the use of government vehicles.

Plans are underway for the installation of solar power systems in key government offices and evacuation centers, utilizing a PHP25 million budget allocation. Additionally, the city is actively encouraging homeowners to install solar panels by offering a 20% discount on real property taxes.

Tre±as mentioned that the city government is collaborating with the City Council to review and update the 2009 ordinance that grants this incentive, aiming to simplify the application process and motivate more residents to adopt renewable energy solutions. "We discussed with the council who can amend and review the ordinance to make it easier for our people to apply for renewable energy or the solar energy system," she stated.
