Iloilo Mayors Emphasize Transparency and Accountable Governance

Iloilo: The League of Municipalities of the Philippines (LMP) - Iloilo chapter is committed to promoting good governance, transparency, and open decision-making in the execution of government programs, projects, and activities.

According to Philippines News Agency, LMP-Iloilo president and Badiangan Mayor Suzette Mamon highlighted their dedication to these principles during an interview on Thursday. She noted that while flood control projects are significant, not all municipalities in Iloilo have such initiatives. Instead, local chief executives implement a variety of projects across different areas.

Mayor Mamon emphasized the importance of responsibly managing any government funds used in implementing various initiatives. She stressed the need for transparency, accountability, and effective management in their actions and decisions. "We have to have an optimal use and utilization of our resources for efficiency and effectiveness of government services," she stated.

During the first organizational meeting of LMP members on Tuesday, they reaffirmed their commitment to these governance standards. Mamon reiterated that good governance is a fundamental mandate for government officials in Iloilo, aligning with the province's broader objectives under Governor Arthur Defensor Jr.

Additionally, Mayor Mamon mentioned that local government units (LGUs) receiving nationally-funded projects have received notifications from the Department of Public Works and Highways. These LGUs are invited to observe the bidding process and are informed about the winning contractors. The LGUs also conduct inspections of the projects, highlighting any areas that require improvement.

Mayor Mamon underscored the importance of community involvement in these processes, stating, "We are very transparent. We involve the barangay and the community. I think it is the same with other LGUs. At the end of the day, the acceptance will be with the local government unit."
