Iloilo Province and City Extend Financial and Material Aid to Earthquake-Hit Cebu and Davao

Iloilo city: The city and province of Iloilo have announced plans to provide assistance to areas impacted by recent earthquakes in Cebu and Davao. In a statement made on Monday, Mayor Raisa Tre±as confirmed that the city government will allocate PHP200,000 each to Bogo City and Davao Oriental as a form of financial aid to help with recovery efforts.

According to Philippines News Agency, Councilor Sedfrey Cabaluna has already initiated support through the "Tabang Sang mga Ilonggo" donation drive, successfully sending goods and messages of hope to those affected in northern Cebu. The drive has quickly amassed significant donations, both monetary and in-kind, from multiple sectors. These contributions, which are sufficient to assist at least 670 families, were delivered with the help of the 3rd Civil Military Operations of the Philippine Army.

Iloilo Governor Arthur Defensor Jr. has stated that the provincial government is also preparing to extend assistance to Davao. He emphasized that the capacity of the province to provide aid will be assessed before processing any further actions. He indicated that potential funding could come from the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office. Defensor has already authorized a PHP5 million check for Cebu, scheduled to be sent on Tuesday.

Alfonso Baldonado III, who leads the training and administrative division of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, reported that they are actively monitoring the ongoing series of earthquakes affecting different regions of the country. The provincial capitol, equipped with an intensity meter reading instrument by the Department of Science and Technology - Philippine Institute for Volcanology and Seismology, is part of this monitoring effort. Baldonado assured that the province has protocols in place for earthquake scenarios, including safety measures such as "duck, cover and hold," evacuations, personnel accounting, and inspections of structural integrity in key buildings.
