Iloilo City: The newly opened Sunset Boulevard is quickly becoming a hotspot for health and wellness activities in Iloilo City. On Sunday afternoon, more than 2,500 runners took part in the Pinay in Action (PIA) Sundown fun run, the first event of its kind along the boulevard.
According to Philippines News Agency, Pyt Trima±ez, a member of the organizing team, highlighted that the PIA caravan is the advocacy arm of Senator Pia Cayetano, who is both an athlete and a health advocate. "The Pinay in Action caravan is an advocacy that promotes health and wellness for Filipino families through sports," he said. The fun run featured race categories in 9, 6, and 3 kilometers, covering the full stretch of the boulevard up to the municipality of Oton.
Iloilo Provincial Sangguniang Kabataan federation president Esara Aldeguer Javier noted the fortune of having Iloilo chosen as one of the venues for the national advocacy, emphasizing the health benefits of running for the heart and body. The day also included a Zumba session at the boulevard's viewing deck, adding another dimension to the wellness activities offered.
Earlier that morning, nearly 1,000 cyclists participated in the Iloilo Provincial Bike Caravan, riding through the city's major roads, further solidifying the boulevard's role as a center for health and wellness events.
