Manila: Two officers of the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) received letters of commendation from the International Maritime Organization (IMO) for their efforts in women empowerment in the maritime sector.

According to Philippines News Agency, PCG Spokesperson Capt. Noemie Cayabyab announced that Rear Admiral Mitzie Silva-Campo and Commodore Christine Pauline Berga±o-Diciano were the recipients of commendations under the IMO Gender Equality Award.

The recognitions highlighted the Philippines' growing leadership in promoting inclusivity and excellence within the global maritime community. "The PCG celebrates their achievements as they continue to inspire future generations of women in maritime service," Cayabyab remarked.

Silva-Campo was praised for her role in developing gender-responsive policies that have enabled women to attain flag rank in the PCG. Meanwhile, Berga±o-Diciano was recognized for her advocacy efforts in promoting women empowerment throughout the maritime sector in Southeast Asia.

Both Silva-Campo and Berga±o-Diciano were honored during the IMO's 135th session held in London from November 20 to 21.
