In-Person Classes Resume Gradually in Western Visayas Public Schools

Iloilo city: The Department of Education in Western Visayas (DepEd VI) has observed the gradual resumption of face-to-face classes in public schools, with only 450 schools remaining under the alternative delivery mode (ADM) of learning as of Monday. 'We have monitored schools that have already resumed classes today. This is based on the assessment of local government units (LGUs) that it is already safe for our learners to return to in-person classes,' DepEd VI spokesperson Hernani Escullar Jr. said in an interview.

According to Philippines News Agency, for schools division offices (SDOs) with monitored suspension of in-person classes, learners were automatically shifted to ADM to ensure learning continuity. They will return to in-person classes once appropriate guidance is received from the local chief executives (LCEs).

Based on DepEd data, 205,558 learners are still affected by the suspension of in-person classes by their respective LGUs due to inclement weather. The ADM is still being implemented in 21 schools with 3,714 learners in Antique; 63 schools in Guimaras with 21,200 learners; 300 schools with 105,625 students in Iloilo province; and 66 schools from Iloilo City with 75,010 learners.

Last week, DepEd recorded 2,370 public schools with 731,982 learners shifting to ADM due to heavy rains.
