Bacolod City Allocates P50M for Construction of BUCAS Plus Center

Bacolod city: The city government has designated PHP50 million for the construction of the Bagong Urgent Care and Ambulatory Service (BUCAS) Plus center, aimed at addressing minor medical admissions. This initiative is in collaboration with the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital (CLMMRH).

According to Philippines News Agency, Mayor Greg Gasataya announced in a press briefing that the healthcare facility will be constructed on city-owned land in Barangay 14. A multi-purpose center is also planned for the same site. The mayor mentioned that the city is waiting for the City Council's authorization to enter into a memorandum of agreement with the Department of Health (DOH) to commence construction.

The CLMMRH serves as the DOH's leading hospital in the Negros Island Region. Gasataya highlighted that the funding for the BUCAS Plus center will be sourced from a bank loan secured by the city government.

Lone District Representative Alfredo Abelardo Benitez, who advocated for the BUCAS Plus program before his tenure as mayor concluded last month, emphasized the project's goal to provide quality primary healthcare services to the community. He noted that the initiative would help reduce hospital congestion, allowing them to focus on critical cases.

BUCAS centers act as crucial intermediary healthcare hubs, filling the gap between local health centers and larger hospitals. The services planned include laboratory tests, tuberculosis management, vaccinations, cancer screening, minor surgical operations, consultations for chronic conditions, obstetrics and gynecology services, mental health support, first aid, nutrition support, dental care, and an in-house pharmacy.

The center will also offer specialized services for senior citizens, such as geriatric care and various surgical procedures.
