Davao: The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) on Friday assured that telecommunications infrastructure remains stable in most areas affected by the magnitude 7.4 quake that struck off the coast of Manay, Davao Oriental. In an advisory, the DICT said all facilities in its Region 11 (Davao) office are safe and fully operational, with only minor plaster cracks reported in Davao Occidental. "Internet and cellular services in most parts of Davao City, Davao del Sur, Davao de Oro, and Davao Occidental remain stable," it said.
According to Philippines News Agency, there was a temporary internet and cellular instability after the earthquake struck at around 9:43 a.m., but it was restored by 11:16 a.m. Additionally, Starlink backup systems and HF/VHF radio links have been placed on standby to ensure connectivity in the region in the event of aftershocks or power interruptions.
To date, power supply remains stable across most of the affected areas, with partial outages in some parts of Davao Oriental. "DICT regional teams are on full alert, coordinating with telcos, local DRRMs (Disaster Risk Reduction and Management), and local government units (LGUs) to keep communication lines open and ensure uninterrupted digital and emergency services," it said.
