Manila: The Isabela City government in Basilan province has allocated PHP19.7 million to renovate and upgrade facilities in 21 schools in the city. Isabela City Mayor Sitti Djalia Turabin-Hataman stated that the initiative aims to strengthen the education sector and enhance the learning environment for the city's youth.

According to Philippines News Agency, the reconstruction and upgrading efforts are part of the School Infrastructure Repair Program. The facilities in 21 schools across the city are undergoing renovations to ensure safer and more comfortable learning spaces for both students and teachers. Currently, renovation and upgrade works are underway in five schools, including Makiri Elementary School, Isabela Central Elementary Pilot School, Lampinigan National High School, Basilan National High School, and Isabela City National High School.

The projects encompass various improvements such as ceiling renovation, infrastructure repairs, repainting, comfort room and gutter repairs, and the construction of a new multi-purpose facility for school activities. Mayor Hataman emphasized the city government's commitment to creating a safer and better-maintained learning environment through ongoing investments in educational infrastructure.

In addition to the school renovation initiative, the City Agriculture Office has launched the 2026 Rice Farmers Field School (RFFS) at the Integrated-Diversified City Agriculture and Fishery Farm School in Sitio Lantung, Barangay Baluno, Isabela City. This year's RFFS focuses on nurturing the next generation of farmers, with participants mainly comprising youth from the Basilan State College - College of Agriculture, the 4H Club of Isabela City, and other young individuals interested in agriculture.

Over 13 sessions, participants will engage in lectures, hands-on activities, field-based learning, and practical exercises to enhance their skills and knowledge in rice production and management.
