ITCZ and Southwest Monsoon to Bring Rainfall Across the Philippines

Manila: The southwest monsoon, locally known as 'habagat', along with the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ), is expected to cause rainfall in various parts of the Philippines, as reported by the weather bureau on Saturday.

According to Philippines News Agency, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) issued a 4 a.m. bulletin forecasting that the southwest monsoon will result in cloudy skies accompanied by scattered rains and thunderstorms over Metro Manila, La Union, Pangasinan, Batanes, the Babuyan Islands, Zambales, Bataan, Tarlac, Pampanga, Bulacan, Cavite, Batangas, Occidental Mindoro, Palawan, Antique, Iloilo, and Guimaras.

Furthermore, the ITCZ will bring similar weather conditions to Eastern Visayas, Northern Mindanao, Caraga, and the Davao Region. PAGASA has cautioned that flash floods or landslides may occur in these areas during periods of moderate to heavy rainfall.

For the remaining regions of the country, partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms are anticipated due to the habagat and localized thunderstorms. PAGASA has also indicated the possibility of flash floods or landslides in these areas during severe thunderstorms.

Light to moderate winds and slight to moderate sea conditions are expected to prevail throughout the archipelago.
