Tokyo: The Japanese government has announced a significant increase in visa fees for foreign nationals, marking the first adjustment in this area in 48 years. This decision, finalized during a cabinet meeting, represents a notable shift in Japan's approach to visa charges, which had remained unchanged since 1978.

According to Philippines News Agency, the new fee structure will raise the cost of a single-entry visa from 3,000 yen to 15,000 yen, while the fee for a multiple-entry visa will rise from 6,000 yen to 30,000 yen. These revised fees will come into effect for visa applications submitted on or after July 1.

Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi addressed the media, stating that the fee increase is a reflection of rising prices over the years. He also mentioned that the government does not anticipate an immediate impact on inbound tourism as a result of these changes.
