Manila: The commander of the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force's (JMSDF) Minesweeping Division 3 paid a courtesy visit to the Philippine Navy (PN), underscoring the growing military ties between Japan and the Philippines. Naval Air Wing Deputy Commander Capt. Emerson David, representing Philippine Fleet chief Rear Adm. Joe Anthony Orbe, welcomed JMSDF Minesweeping Division 3 commander Capt. Amano Shinsuke and his delegation at the Navy headquarters, Naval Station Jose Andrada, Roxas Boulevard, Manila.

According to Philippines News Agency, the visit was part of the goodwill visit of JMSDF vessels JS Bungo (MST-464) and JS Etajima (MSO-306) to the country. Minesweeping involves the removal or disarming of explosive naval mines in the water using specialized vessels called minesweepers. This naval visit emphasizes the strong defense ties and mutual support between the two navies.

During the meeting, both sides discussed ongoing and future collaborations, exchanged insights on operational best practices, and reaffirmed their shared commitment to regional maritime security and stability. "We are very thankful for your visit here in the Philippines. It clearly reflects the growing cooperation between the PN and the JMSDF. From the perspective of other countries, your presence here sends a strong signal of our partnership. It truly boosts our morale as we carry out our day-to-day operations," David said.
