Jiu-Jitsu’s Ramirez Named PSA Top Achiever for November

Manila: Filipino warrior Annie Ramirez was voted as the top achiever for November by the Philippine Sportswriters Association (PSA). The former University of Santo Tomas judoka ruled the women's adult -57kg Gi and No-Gi divisions at the JJIF World Championships on Nov. 1-15 in Bangkok, Thailand.

According to Philippines News Agency, Ramirez, a protege of SEA Games multi-medalist John Baylon, has won medals at the Southeast Asian Games, Asian Games, Asian Championships, AIMAG, and Asian Beach Games. The PSA's monthly honor roll also includes Kimberly Anne Custodio, who competed in Thailand, billiards player Jonas Magpantay, and young gymnast Karl Eldrew Yulo.

Custodio secured her third world title in the adult -45kg division after prevailing over the United Arab Emirates' Aysha Alshamsi via armbar. Magpantay won the Qatar World Cup 10-Ball in Doha, toppling compatriot Carlo Biado and Hungarian Oliver Szolnoki. Karl, the younger sibling of Paris Olympics double gold medalist Carlos Eldrew Yulo, placed third in both floor exercise and horizontal bar events at the 3rd FIG Artistic Gymnastics Junior World Championships in Pasay City.

Other achievers were cuemaster Kyle Amoroto and golfers Rolando Bregente, Chris John, Remata Perry Josef Bucay, and Shinichi Suzuki. Amoroto won the All-Japan Championship in Osaka following an 11-5 victory over compatriot Johann Chua in the finals. The Philippines, represented by Bregente, Remata, Bucay, and Suzuki, defended the Putra Cup title in the Southeast Asian Amateur Golf Team Championships over Thailand by two shots in Tarlac.
