TASEK GELUGOR, Jays Odyssey Music (JOM) Kids Band, a group of 13 children, aged 11 to 17, was recognised by the Asia Book Of Records as 'Youngest Team to Form a Music Band' today. JOM music training centre owner, Viijayanathan Dhaharasen said the recognition was an extraordinary success for the talented children who not only are good in singing but can play various musical instruments. 'I'm very proud of their achievement today, which is the result of their hard work, training and love towards music. 'I will continue to train and guide them, along with other talented youth to boost our local music arena,' he said after receiving a certificate from Asia Book of Record representative Grace Kuppa at the National Day Celebration organised by the Northern Zone Indian Hairstylists Welfare Association in Taman Haji Ahmad Jamil here today. The talented child band made their first appearance on stage to perform several Tamil songs for 45 minutes at the ceremony. Viijayanathan, who is known as Jay in local Tamil film circles, said the group was set up last year with members pulled from his students, selected based on their achievements. 'I set up the JOM training centre in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic and the students are from all over Malaysia who I taught online. 'We chose the best to form a band and called them to the studio to provide more intensive training for free till we were able to form JOM Kids Band,' the music director said. The National Day celebration programme today included a colouring contest, a singing contest and booths by the Employees' Provident Fund (EPF), the Social Security Organisation (PERKESO), the Credit Counselling and Debt Management Agency (AKPK), the National Higher Education Fund Corporation and the Penang State Housing Board Source: BERNAMA News Agency
