KUALA LUMPUR, The Kuala Lumpur Standard Chartered Marathon (KLSCM) 2024 has set a new record this year, with 42,000 participants, surpassing last year's total of 40,000. Among the participants are new, seasoned, and competitive runners who will take part in the events at Dataran Merdeka on October 5 and 6. Notably, this year's race will feature over 2,500 running tourists from 45 countries, marking a 72 per cent increase from 2023. In a statement today, KLSCM project director Rainee Biemans said he was pleased that their efforts to attract more running tourists are starting to bear fruit. 'In the last couple of years, we have made a conscious effort to promote our event to an international audience using targeted social media advertising and we're delighted with the increase in these numbers for KLSCM 2024. 'International runners tend to spend more time on vacation when they visit Kuala Lumpur and this translates to increased revenue from tourism, benefiting businesses around the city,' he said.
