La Castellana: Authorities have called on residents of La Castellana, Negros Occidental, particularly those near waterways and low-lying areas, to remain alert following a mudflow that hit the highway in Barangay Biak-na-Bato near the foot of Mt. Kanlaon. According to Philippines News Agency, the Office of Civil Defense 6 (Western Visayas) issued an advisory urging "heightened caution" and vigilance for potential further flooding or lahar flows. The advisory emphasized that public safety remains a top priority. The advisory detailed that the highway in Sitio Tamburong in Barangay Biak-na-Bato has become impassable due to overflowing floodwaters and mudflow following several days of heavy rain. This situation has been exacerbated by the accumulation of volcanic ash, a consequence of ash emissions and multiple minor to moderate eruptions of Kanlaon Volcano since last year. To ensure travel safety, the Office of Civil Defense advised motorists to take alternative routes and avoid the affected area. Social med ia posts by residents showed delivery trucks struggling to navigate through the dense mudflow. In a separate advisory, the La Castellana Incident Management Team reported that heavy rains in Barangay Biak-na-Bato on Friday night caused stocked lahar to flow into the Tamburong Bridge from Kanlaon Volcano. Consequently, the Barangay Biak-na-Bato highway is temporarily inaccessible to commuters. Clearing operations began past noon on Saturday to address the situation along the affected highway. Municipal information officer Remuel Seladan Lajo mentioned that affected commuters could use an alternative route via Barangay Cabacungan until the clearing works are completed. Additional support is being provided by the Department of Public Works and Highways, Bureau of Fire Protection, Philippine Red Cross, and other local government units to assist the La Castellana municipal government. Kanlaon Volcano remains under alert Level 3, indicating magmatic unrest.
