Manila: De La Salle University eliminated Ateneo de Manila University, 11-0, on Tuesday in the UAAP Season 88 softball tournament at the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex in Malate.
According to Philippines News Agency, the Green Batters scored four runs in the first two innings and made seven more in the third to decisively secure their victory. This win marks La Salle's season sweep over Ateneo, following an 18-0 triumph in the first round last February 28.
Head coach Jasper Cabrera expressed the team's determination after a previous loss to UP, emphasizing the need to regain focus and achieve their goal of being in the top two. Julian Del Moral played a crucial role in the third inning, driving in three RBIs to extend La Salle's lead to 8-0. Jasmin Visaya and Cassandra Inot contributed further to seal the win.
On the mound, Joergette Jordan delivered a strong performance, keeping Ateneo scoreless and allowing just two hits while striking out five batters. Cabrera highlighted the importance of focusing on each game as they prepare for upcoming matches, including their next game against UST.
Ateneo struggled to replicate their previous performance, with Zyrah de Guzman being the only player to register hits against Jordan. With this loss, Ateneo remains winless after six games and will face Adamson University and the University of the Philippines in their upcoming matches.
