Manila: La Union Governor Mario Eduardo Ortega and residents of Pangasinan have expressed their approval of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.'s statements during his fifth State of the Nation Address (SONA).

According to Philippines News Agency, Governor Ortega highlighted the President's commitment to flood control, which was a primary focus of the SONA. Ortega emphasized the importance of establishing credibility in the government's efforts, acknowledging that while initiatives are underway, some critics remain skeptical about their transparency. He supported the President's view on the necessity of building a robust case with complete evidence rather than rushing for superficial results.

Governor Ortega also pointed out the potential benefits of revising the Electric Power Industry Reform Act (EPIRA Law), which he described as long overdue. He criticized the practice of utility distribution companies passing their inefficiencies onto consumers and called for a streamlined process for adopting new energy generation methods, such as solar power, which align with the government's direction.

Ortega expressed satisfaction with the President's focus on healthcare and agricultural support, which align with La Union's local programs. These priorities, he noted, would directly benefit the community.

Pangasinenses similarly praised the President's address. Councilor Jessica Gueco from Malasiqui town supported the call to remove systems loss charges from power bills. The Municipal Council of Malasiqui had recently investigated a rate increase with the Central Pangasinan Electric Cooperative.

Nestor Montemayor, a municipal employee in Malasiqui, welcomed the President's proposal to raise the income tax exemption ceiling to PHP350,000 annually, stating it would alleviate financial pressures on families due to the rising costs of gas and goods.

Eric Macaraeg, another government employee, commended the President for his stance on legal accountability, referencing the case filed against former House Speaker Martin Romualdez, a relative of the President. Macaraeg noted that this action demonstrated that President Marcos Jr. prioritizes the rule of law over familial ties.
