La union: The annual surfing break in La Union, known for its seaside activities and cultural events, kicked off at the Waves Point, Barangay Panicsican, San Juan town. Governor Mario Eduardo Ortega encouraged both locals and tourists to participate, emphasizing the important role of local surfers in promoting tourism in the area. According to Philippines News Agency, the event is hosted by the towns of San Juan and Bacnotan and showcases La Union's rich culture. Activities include a surfing competition, beach volleyball, and a surf clinic. Unique events like a glow run, pawi-can race, and surfboard painting competitions are also lined up. Attendees can enjoy musical performances, including the Elyu music awards and a pet Halloween musical concert. Bacnotan town will host a cultural show, zumbacnotan, and a surf clinic, among other activities. Visitors can also participate in a music festival, foam party, and rescue Olympics. Bands such as Amiel Sol, Sunkissed Lola, and Gracenote will perform, adding to the vibrant atmosphere. The event promotes eco-friendly initiatives with activities like an eco-booth camp, coastal clean-up, and mangrove planting. San Juan Municipal Tourism Officer Riza Joy Abat mentioned the cooperation with local uniformed personnel and private sectors to ensure the orderly conduct of activities. Bacnotan Municipal Tourism Officer Cheresa Sison highlighted the provincial government's assistance in preparations. Local authorities have arranged designated parking and advised motorists to use alternative routes to alleviate traffic congestion. The surfing break will continue until November 2.
