Pasay: Aurora Philippines set a new record for the longest winning streak in MPL Philippines history after defeating a determined TNC team, 3-2, in the upper bracket semifinals at the Cuneta Astrodome on Thursday night.
According to Philippines News Agency, the victory marked Aurora PH's 14th consecutive win, breaking the previous record held by Onic Philippines' Season 14 squad. The streak dates back to the last 13 matches of the regular season, showcasing Aurora PH's consistent dominance.
The decisive moment came in Game 5, where Kenneth "Yue" Tadeo led a crucial late-game play. By drafting Cecilion, a hero known for his clutch performance, Tadeo steered Aurora PH to victory in a pivotal team fight during the first Lord dance. This strategic win enabled them to dominate the second Lord fight, securing the endgame push.
Aurora PH, guaranteed a podium finish for the third time in its young history with the league, is set to face Team Liquid Philippines in the upper bracket finals on Friday. The winner will earn a coveted spot in the M7 World Championship scheduled for January next year.
Earlier, Liquid PH showcased its prowess by sweeping Onic PH, 3-0, in the first upper bracket semifinal. Liquid PH's early game dominance was evident as they allowed Onic PH to claim just one turret throughout the series.
Onic PH now faces a must-win match against TNC in the lower bracket semifinals, also on Thursday night, to maintain its hopes of defending its M-Series championship.
