San juan: Far Eastern University (FEU) sustained its winning form to beat Arellano University, 25-22, 25-17, 25-16, in the 2025 Shakey's Super League (SSL) Preseason Unity Cup at Playtime FilOil Centre in San Juan on Saturday. Congolese Faida Bakanke scored 15 points, including eight in the third set, as the Lady Tamaraws notched their second straight win in Pool B.
According to Philippines News Agency, Bakanke remarked on the team's performance in a post-match interview, stating, "We had a slow start and Tin (Ubaldo) told us we should move and give our best." Bakanke contributed 13 attacks and two blocks, emphasizing the need to adhere to their coaches' guidance and to excel in serving and blocking.
The match saw FEU overcome an initial 3-9 deficit in the third set, ultimately executing a 22-7 run to clinch the victory in 72 minutes. Arellano's Karylle Melendrez scored 12 points, marking the team's first loss following a previous victory against Jose Rizal University.
Looking ahead, FEU aims to maintain its unbeaten record in the group stage as it prepares to face Adamson University, the National Invitationals Cebu leg champion, at Paco Arena in Manila on October 3.
