Laguna Governor Calls for Unified Master Plan to Address Flooding Challenges

Laguna: Governor Sol Aragones on Thursday emphasized the need for a comprehensive, province-wide master plan for drainage and flood control systems, highlighting the growing threats posed by stronger typhoons.

According to Philippines News Agency, Provincial Information Officer Danilo Lucas reported that during a meeting at the governor's office with municipal, city, and district engineers, Aragones stressed the importance of implementing a long-term, integrated strategy. 'Maybe we should have a master plan for drainage,' Aragones stated, as she pointed out the persistent flooding near Sunstar Mall in Santa Cruz town. She emphasized the necessity for action, stating, 'We can't just look at it, we have to do something because it's been going on for so long.'

Aragones also disclosed that a Memorandum of Agreement is in the final stages with Ramon Ang of San Miguel Corporation, who has offered to assist with dredging operations at no cost to the government. This agreement will be reviewed by the engineers involved in the project to ensure its alignment with the comprehensive plan.

Further, Aragones asserted that the province's strategy should extend beyond temporary solutions, aiming for structural changes that reduce the frequency of floods, safeguard communities, and promote sustainable economic development. She called for enhanced collaboration among government agencies, engineering teams, and private partners to guarantee the plan's success and durability.
