Laguna: Gov. Sol Aragones launched the 'Laguna Pantry' on Monday, providing free fresh vegetables to communities while purchasing directly from local farmers to bolster food security. The program buys produce for distribution across four provincial districts, aiding both residents and growers amid the current crisis.

According to Philippines News Agency, the initiative aims to support local agriculture and ensure food availability by purchasing vegetables directly from farmers, starting with those in Nagcarlan. This effort is in coordination with Mayor Elmor Vita, and the province plans to expand sourcing to include farmers from each district as the program grows, ensuring broader support for local agriculture and sustaining a continuous supply for beneficiaries.

Gov. Aragones emphasized the dual benefit of the Laguna Pantry, stating, 'Hindi tayo papayag na hindi tayo tutulong. Naisip po namin na maglagay ng Laguna Pantry. Natulungan na natin ang publiko, natulungan din natin ang mga farmers (We won't stand idle without helping. We decided to set up the Laguna Pantry. We've helped the public, and we've also helped our farmers).' This underscores the initiative's commitment to aid both the community and local farmers.

The program's rollout includes a phased implementation and scheduled distribution system to guarantee orderly and fair access for the public. Officials anticipate expanding the program to other districts in the upcoming days, contingent on available resources and the harvest supply from local farmers.
