Laoag city: The city government suspended classes in both public and private schools at all levels, as well as government work on Monday afternoon in celebration of the annual Pamulinawen Festival grand float parade here. 'The suspension aims to ensure public safety, maintain order, and effectively manage vehicular and pedestrian traffic during the grand float parade,' Laoag City Mayor James Bryan Alcid said in a statement, citing participation by 16 large floats and 10 small floats from various towns and cities in the province.

According to Philippines News Agency, government personnel in peacekeeping, traffic, disaster management, health, and sanitation, including job orders and casuals, are required to continue their duties. Laoag City's Pamulinawen Festival is celebrated here on Feb. 10, with a series of activities for the whole month.

Malaca±ang has declared it a special non-working day under Proclamation No. 1154 signed by acting Executive Secretary Ralph Recto. Pamulinawen is an Ilocano folk song about a strong woman. The Pamulinawen day also celebrates the Feast of St. William the Hermit, the city's patron saint.

The grand float parade is one of the highlights of the festivities, showcasing Laoag's culture, heritage, and vibrant spirit. Other activities include an agro-industrial fair at Laoag Central Elementary School, the Miss Laoag beauty pageant, Comedia Ilocana, a motor show, film viewing, a job fair and a fluvial parade, among others.
