Laoag: The Buttong Integrated School in this city has received a new two-story, four-classroom building complete with armchairs, whiteboards, and reading nooks, enhancing the learning environment for students.
According to Philippines News Agency, the ceremonial turnover saw Schools Division Superintendent Joann Corpuz express gratitude to SM Foundation, which donated the building, describing it as a "gift of love" to the Schools Division of Laoag City. Corpuz emphasized the school's indebtedness to SM Foundation for their generosity.
The school building project marks SM Foundation's 108th nationwide and is the first in Laoag, executed in partnership with the Department of Education under its Adopt-a-School Program. Carmen Linda Atayde, SM Foundation's executive director for education, highlighted the building's features, including 50 new armchairs per room, washrooms, teacher's tables and chairs, wall fans, wall clocks, and panoramic whiteboards. Atayde noted slight modifications in the classroom design to better serve students and teachers.
Beyond the infrastructure, Atayde mentioned that SM Foundation offers scholarship grants and projects aimed at uplifting local communities. Charlene Villon, President of the Supreme Secondary Learner Government for Grade 10, welcomed the additional classrooms, citing their importance due to the increased number of Junior High School students. Villon expressed optimism that the new space would inspire students to attend school with renewed energy.
