Manila: Senator Sherwin Gatchalian is advocating for the passage of a measure aimed at institutionalizing reforms to enhance the quality assurance and analysis of test items in the Board Licensure Examination for Professional Teachers (BLEPT).

According to Philippines News Agency, Senate Bill 52 seeks to amend the Philippine Teachers Professionalization Act of 1994 (Republic Act 7836). The bill proposes that the test questions and corresponding answers from the licensure examination be released to the Teacher Education Council (TEC) within 15 days of the results. The TEC is responsible for improving the quality of teacher education and training in the country. Additionally, the bill calls for the performance data of Teacher Education Institutions (TEIs) to be released within the same timeframe.

Senator Gatchalian emphasized the significance of providing the TEC with detailed information from the licensure exams. "This will enable the TEC to do a deeper analysis on the issues and problems being experienced by our Teacher Education Institutions," he stated. He added that having access to the examination results would allow the TEC to make informed recommendations for curriculum adjustments.

In a related development, the Second Congressional Commission on Education has suggested the involvement of qualified test item writers, reviewers, and assessment experts who possess relevant training in curriculum standards and educational assessment.
