Quezon city: Law enforcers on Tuesday successfully rescued a kidnapped businessman and arrested three of his alleged abductors, the Philippine National Police (PNP) announced on Wednesday.

According to Philippines News Agency, at a press briefing in Camp Crame, Brig. Gen. Glicerio Cansilao Jr., chief of the PNP-Anti-Kidnapping Group, confirmed that the victim is now "safe and united with his family." The family reached out to the police after the victim, last seen in Mandaluyong City, did not return home on February 12 and was unreachable. The suspects reportedly demanded PHP4 million for the victim's release.

Investigators tracked the suspects through PHP250,000 in digital payments sent by the family as initial ransom. "Our operatives had a chance to locate the location of the victim, and when our operatives got it and made sure that it was safe, they made the arrest," Cansilao stated. However, some suspects remain at large, including the alleged leader of the incident.

In a related development, Pasay City Police chief, Col. Joselito De Sesto, reported the arrest of a Chinese national linked to a dismembered body found in Binondo, Manila on February 15. The suspect's compatriot remains at large. Investigators traced the gruesome discovery to a condominium unit in Pasay City using CCTV footage and intelligence work. Evidence found at the scene included blood-stained pillows and a mop.

De Sesto mentioned that the investigation is still ongoing to determine the duration of the suspects' stay in the country, the motive behind the killing, and the identity of the principal suspect.
