Tacloban: Micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in Leyte province have reported significant earnings of PHP6.2 million during a five-day pre-Christmas trade fair held in Tacloban City. This figure exceeds the initial sales target of PHP5.82 million, as announced by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) provincial office.

According to Philippines News Agency, DTI Leyte provincial director Faustino Gayas Jr. provided a breakdown of the sales performance, highlighting PHP4.019 million generated from cash transactions, PHP1.916 million from booked orders, and PHP267,620 currently under negotiation. Gayas remarked that these figures reflect robust consumer demand during the event and hold potential for future business prospects for the participating enterprises.

The trade fair, which took place from December 11 to 15 at Robinsons Place Tacloban, featured 42 MSME exhibitors. Among these, 37 were regular participants, while five MSMEs were involved in market testing. The exhibitors represented key local industries, including processed food, processed fruits and nuts, cacao, coconut, wearables, and homestyle items.

Gayas emphasized the support provided to participating MSMEs by DTI Leyte, which included assistance in improving packaging and labeling, workshops on pricing, financial aid, and training in business management and skills. These initiatives aimed to enhance the competitiveness of local enterprises in the market.

The trade fair is a part of the "Layag" Leyte trade fair series, a marketing brand introduced in June 2023. The term "Layag," meaning "to sail," signifies DTI Leyte's commitment to guiding its supported enterprises towards new and larger markets.
