Manila: The results of a recent survey highlighting that local government units (LGUs) are the most trusted sector in the country should remind leaders of their enormous responsibility to the people they have sworn to serve, Union of Local Authorities of the Philippines president, Quirino Governor Dax Cua, said on Thursday. According to Philippines News Agency, the 2024 Philippine Trust Study revealed that LGUs have the highest trust rating among government sectors, scoring 95.4 percent. The study, conducted by EON The Stakeholders Relations Group in collaboration with Ateneo de Manila University's Department of Development Studies, explored the concept of trust across six sectors: government, business, media, religious institutions, non-governmental organizations, and the academe. Governor Cua emphasized the close relationship LGUs maintain with their constituents, noting their role as frontliners in community life. "We are there from womb to tomb, amid every joyous occasion and throughout various crises," Cua stated. He expressed gratitude for the public's recognition of LGUs' efforts but also acknowledged the weight of maintaining such trust. Cua urged his fellow leaders to build on the public's trust through concrete action. "Huwag tayo tumigil sa pag-iisip kung paano natin patuloy na maitataguyod ang kapakanan ng ating mga pinagsisilbihan, lalo na ang mga pinaka-nangangailangan ng tulong ng pamahalaan," he said, calling for continuous support of constituents' welfare, particularly those most in need. He concluded by encouraging leaders to focus on leaving a legacy of sincere service and effective leadership that positively impacts their constituents' lives.
