Signal No. 1 Raised in Northern Luzon as Severe Tropical Storm Marce Intensifies.

Manila: Severe Tropical Storm (STS) Marce, also known internationally as Yinxing, has intensified and is approaching typhoon strength, according to the weather bureau. The storm currently has maximum sustained winds of 110 kilometers per hour (kph) near its center with gusts reaching up to 135 kph. As of 4 a.m., it was situated 735 kilometers east of Baler, Aurora. According to Philippines News Agency, Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 has been raised over several regions, including Batanes, Cagayan, and the Babuyan Islands. This signal also extends to the northern and eastern parts of Isabela, the northern portion of Apayao, and northern Ilocos Norte. The affected areas should expect strong winds, with minimal to minor impacts anticipated. The weather bureau has indicated that Wind Signal No. 4 could be issued if the storm continues to intensify. The northeasterly wind flow is causing strong to gale-force gusts across Ilocos Sur, Aurora, Quezon, and Camarines Norte. Consequently, a gale warning has been i ssued for the northern and eastern seaboards of Northern Luzon, making sea travel risky for all vessels. Scattered rain showers and thunderstorms are forecasted over Cagayan Valley, Apayao, Kalinga, Quezon, and the Bicol Region. These areas face the possibility of moderate to heavy rains, which could lead to flash floods or landslides. The storm may make landfall around the Babuyan Islands or northern mainland Cagayan on Thursday night or Friday, but the track could change, potentially affecting mainland Cagayan-Isabela. STS Marce is expected to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility by Friday night or Saturday, as reported by PAGASA.
