LGUs Suspend Classes as Rains Persist in Caraga

Manila: Local government units (LGUs) in the Caraga Region: suspended classes on Wednesday, as easterlies brought moderate to heavy rains across the region. Surigao del Sur Governor Alexander Pimentel, chairperson of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC), issued Advisory No. 01-2025 ordering the suspension of elementary and high school classes in public and private schools.

According to Philippines News Agency, Pimentel cited Department of Education Order No. 22-2004 as the basis for the suspension. The advisory directed schools to implement distance learning delivery modalities to ensure learning continuity. Tandag City Mayor Roxanne Pimentel issued a separate advisory, also suspending elementary and high school classes in the city.

Meanwhile, the PDRRMC in Agusan del Sur is closely monitoring rising water levels in major river systems in the province. As of 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, water levels reached 22.30 meters at Solibao Bridge in Rosario town and 17.42 meters at the San Teodoro-Poblacion Bridge in Bunawan town, both nearing critical levels.

The PDRRMC has advised residents in flood-prone areas to remain vigilant as rains from the weather disturbance continue.
