Licenses of Drivers in EDSA-Ortigas Road Rage Suspended

Manila: The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has suspended the licenses of both drivers involved in a viral road rage incident along Epifanio de los Santos Avenue (EDSA) - Ortigas for 90 days. This decision comes in the wake of an altercation that captured widespread attention on social media.

According to Philippines News Agency, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) announced that, in addition to the preventive suspension, the LTO has summoned both drivers for further investigation. The incident has drawn attention due to its alignment with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s directive to promote discipline on the road and adherence to traffic regulations.

The drivers, who have been called to the LTO Central Office in Quezon City, are facing potential charges of 'Reckless Driving, Obstruction, and Improper Person to Operate a Motor Vehicle.' They have been instructed to surrender their licenses upon receiving the show cause order.

The incident, which went viral, involved the drivers of a Toyota Innova and a Toyota Wigo engaging in reckless driving during heavy traffic along EDSA-Ortigas. The Toyota Wigo was seen cutting off and brake-checking the Innova repeatedly, and a passenger in the Wigo made an obscene gesture towards the other vehicle.

Both vehicles have been placed on alarm as the investigation continues. The case highlights ongoing efforts to ensure road safety and compliance with traffic laws in the country.
