Antique: Forty-one conflict-affected and vulnerable areas in Antique have been designated as recipients of livelihood projects facilitated by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) and the Office of the Presidential Adviser on Peace, Reconciliation and Unity (OPAPRU).
According to Philippines News Agency, Noli Valenzuela, the team leader for the DSWD Sustainable Livelihood Program in Antique, announced that project proposals for these areas have been submitted for the Payapa at Masaganang Pamayanan (PAMANA) peace and development initiative to DSWD Region 6 in Western Visayas. Each of the identified areas, or barangays, is set to receive PHP300,000 to support their proposed livelihood projects.
Valenzuela highlighted that the proposed projects from beneficiaries include ventures such as poultry feeds, rice retailing, and both pre- and post-harvest facilities. Specific proposals include native pig breeding in a barangay in the municipality of Laua-an and native chicken-raising in Tobias Fornier. These initiatives aim to empower communities that have previously experienced sightings or presence of the New People's Army across the 14 towns in Antique.
The funding for these projects is anticipated to be released by September or October, following approval by the DSWD. This initiative builds on the previous year's implementation of PAMANA in four towns: Sebaste, Laua-an, Pandan, and Culasi.
