Manila: Acting Transportation Secretary Giovanni Lopez on Thursday ordered the fast-tracking of the demolition of the Metrowalk property and the subsequent construction of the Ortigas Station of the Metro Manila Subway Project (MMSP). During his inspection of the project site, Lopez thanked the construction team for their work and ordered the accelerated completion of the station for the benefit of commuters.
According to Philippines News Agency, Lopez emphasized the urgency of the project, stating, "Tatlong taon nang delayed ito, kailangan mahabol na natin. 'Yun din naman ang utos sa atin ng Pangulo. Bilisan ang construction ng subway," highlighting that the project has been delayed for three years and needs to be expedited as per the President's directive. The demolition of the Metrowalk property began on September 2 and was led by Lopez and Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto.
To date, the right-of-way acquisition of the project is 82 percent complete and is expected to reach 95 percent by December. The MMSP, which is capable of serving 519,000 passengers per day, is expected to be fully operational by 2032. Once completed, it will significantly reduce travel time from Valenzuela to Pasay City from one and a half hours to 45 minutes.
