Manila: The Land Transportation Office (LTO) on Thursday welcomed the appointment of lawyer Giovanni Lopez as the acting secretary of the Department of Transportation (DOTr). In a statement, LTO Chief Assistant Secretary Vigor Mendoza II expressed confidence that Lopez is the 'right man to lead the department' in pushing for necessary reforms to improve the country's transportation system.

According to Philippines News Agency, Mendoza noted that Lopez's appointment is well-deserved, emphasizing his past experience with the LTO, where he briefly led the agency in 2022. Mendoza highlighted Lopez's deep institutional knowledge in the transportation sector, describing him as a suitable choice to lead the DOTr in achieving the goals under President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s "Bagong Pilipinas" initiative.

Furthermore, the LTO expressed full support for Secretary Lopez, especially in the mission of enhancing government services to commuters and road users through efficient systems and improved infrastructure. Lopez has pledged to continue the 'gold standard' set by his predecessor, Public Works Secretary Vince Dizon, during a turnover ceremony held in San Juan City. He also mentioned that President Marcos Jr. emphasized continuity within the DOTr when Lopez took his oath of office on Monday.
