Manila: The low pressure area (LPA) outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) is expected to develop into a tropical cyclone within the next 24 hours, the weather bureau announced on Tuesday. The LPA is currently situated 1,290 kilometers east of Eastern Visayas, as per the latest bulletin from the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA). According to Philippines News Agency, once the system enters PAR, it will be named Wilma and is projected to make landfall over Eastern Visayas or the Caraga region. PAGASA weather specialist Chenel Dominguez highlighted the uncertainty in the LPA's forecast track but advised residents in the Bicol Region, Eastern Visayas, and Mindanao to prepare for potential rains starting Friday. Dominguez urged the public to stay updated with regular bulletins from PAGASA and coordinate with local government units for possible evacuation advisories. Meanwhile, Mindanao is expected to experience scattered rains and thunderstorms on Tuesday, influenced by the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) affecting southern parts of the region. PAGASA warned that moderate to heavy rains could lead to flash floods or landslides in the area. In contrast, isolated light rains caused by the northeast monsoon, known locally as "amihan," will affect Batanes and the Babuyan Islands. The rest of the Philippines will see isolated rain showers due to localized thunderstorms, with light to moderate winds and slight to moderate seas prevailing across the archipelago.
