LTO Apprehends Over 20K Unregistered Vehicles in June

Manila: The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has apprehended 20,307 vehicles with expired registrations in June as part of the government's crackdown against unregistered and unsafe cars.

According to Philippines News Agency, LTO Chief, Assistant Secretary Vigor Mendoza II, announced that aside from a PHP10,000 fine, unregistered vehicles will be impounded beginning August. He emphasized that the vehicles will remain impounded until they pass a roadworthiness inspection, highlighting this measure as crucial for the safety of road users.

Out of the total vehicles apprehended, 12,808 were motorcycles and 3,992 were tricycles. Mendoza noted that the over 20,000 apprehensions in June represent only a small fraction of the total number of vehicles that require registration renewal. He stated, "We've caught many, and we'll catch many more," indicating the LTO's ongoing efforts to address the issue.

The LTO-Calabarzon regional office recorded the highest number of apprehensions with 10,516, followed by LTO-Mimaropa with 2,925, and LTO Cagayan Valley with 2,591. Mendoza urged vehicle owners to register their vehicles, stressing that registration is one of the best ways to ensure their roadworthiness and to comply with the LTO's road safety campaign, "Stop Road Crash."
