Malaca±ang: The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has successfully addressed an 11-year backlog in motorcycle plates, having manufactured a total of 5.4 million plates by 2025.
According to Philippines News Agency, Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon announced during a press conference in Malaca±ang that these plates are now ready for distribution to LTO district offices across the country. 'Finally, under the administration of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., and after 11 years, we wiped out the backlog on motorcycle plates. This year, we have now produced 5.4 million MC plates, which effectively eliminates the backlog,' Dizon stated.
LTO Acting Assistant Secretary Greg Pua highlighted that the ramp-up in plate production over the past two years has been instrumental in resolving the backlog that began accumulating in 2014. 'On the last day of June 2025, we were able to comply with our commitment by producing a total of 18,578,612, which includes both backlogs and current plate requirements,' Pua explained.
The commitment to resolve the backlog was made by LTO Assistant Secretary Vigor Mendoza II to President Marcos during a meeting at Malaca±ang last year. Of the total plates produced, 11,815,068 were for motorcycles, while 6,763,544 (or 3,381,772 pairs) were for motor vehicles.
Pua emphasized the collaborative effort behind this achievement, stating, 'This significant accomplishment, which surpassed the expectations of everybody, is a team effort, with the dedication and perseverance of our plate-making plant.' To date, over 7 million plates have been distributed to their respective owners.
