Cavite: The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has taken decisive action against several drivers who were captured on camera engaging in illegal activities such as counterflow driving, road rage, and illegal racing. LTO chief Assistant Secretary Markus Lacanilao issued show cause orders (SCO) to the registered owners and drivers of a Toyota Fortuner and a Toyota Innova seen driving on the wrong side of the road in Cavite, with the Fortuner using unauthorized blinking signal lights.
According to Philippines News Agency, the LTO's initial investigation revealed that the Toyota Innova is owned by a local government unit. The SCOs issued to the drivers and owners cite administrative violations including 'Operating a Motor Vehicle with Unauthorized Parts/Accessories, Driving Against Traffic, and Improper Person to Operate a Motor Vehicle.'
In a separate incident, the LTO issued an SCO to a Nissan Navara pickup truck driver who gained notoriety for performing dangerous maneuvers that posed risks to other motorists. The video evidence showed the vehicle swerving, brake-checking, and stopping abruptly, alongside performing a rude gesture at another driver. The individuals involved face administrative violations like 'Reckless Driving, Obstruction of Traffic, and Improper Person to Operate a Motor Vehicle.'
Assistant Secretary Lacanilao emphasized the agency's zero tolerance for irresponsible driving. 'We will not tolerate any kind of irresponsible driving that endangers the public. A road is not the place for anger, aggressive driving, or any action that can cause accidents,' he stated.
In another case, the LTO also summoned the registered owner and driver of a Toyota Fortuner that was filmed racing on public roads. They face charges of 'Reckless Driving and Improper Person to Operate a Motor Vehicle.' All drivers and vehicle owners involved have been temporarily suspended pending the ongoing investigation, with their vehicles placed on alert to prevent further transactions with the LTO. They have been instructed to appear before the LTO and provide a written and notarized explanation regarding the violations stated in their SCOs.
