Manila: The Land Transportation Office (LTO) temporarily suspended and is considering administrative penalties against two drivers who endangered their passengers in two separate incidents that went viral on social media.

According to Philippines News Agency, LTO chief Assistant Secretary Markus Lacanilao summoned the driver and registered owner of a vehicle involved in a viral video where two passengers were seen sitting on the vehicle's roof rack while it was moving. Lacanilao emphasized that such actions not only endanger passengers but also other motorists and road users. A show cause order (SCO) was issued to the driver and owner, requiring them to submit a written and notarized explanation for their alleged administrative violations, including reckless driving and hitching.

In a separate incident, an SCO was issued to a member of the Philippine National Police (PNP) seen in a viral video driving along Yuseco Street in Manila with a minor, while the former wore a helmet and the minor did not. The officer was also filmed driving through a red light. Lacanilao stressed the seriousness of these actions, particularly when the safety of a minor is at risk. The registered owner and driver of the motorcycle have been ordered to appear before the LTO to explain why they should not face administrative penalties for violations such as failure to provide a helmet to the passenger, reckless driving, and disregarding traffic signals.

Both drivers have been issued temporary 90-day license suspensions, and their vehicles have been flagged while investigations continue. Lacanilao urged the public to adhere to traffic laws and report similar violations to the LTO.
