LTO-NIR Flags Rider for Assaulting Elderly Driver on National Highway

Manila: The Land Transportation Office-Negros Island Region (LTO-NIR): on Monday flagged a motorcycle rider for assaulting an elderly man driving a car along the national highway in Murcia, Negros Occidental.

According to Philippines News Agency, the incident involved Patric Demapanag, 30, of Barangay Patag, Silay City, who overtook and blocked the path of a 67-year-old driver from Murcia. The elderly man, identified as Luisito Tubongbanua, was driving a Toyota Wigo in the area of Barangay Salvacion on Sunday afternoon when the confrontation occurred. Demapanag approached Tubongbanua and repeatedly punched him in the face.

Tubongbanua, a former president of the Liga ng mga Barangay and an ex-councilor of Murcia, became the victim of this road rage incident. LTO-NIR announced via a Facebook post that a show cause order will be issued to Demapanag, requiring him to explain why his driver's license should not be suspended, revoked, or subjected to other administrative sanctions.

In an interview, Demapanag claimed that Tubongbanua's driving, which allegedly involved repeatedly cutting him off, provoked his anger, leading to the assault. The motorcycle rider has been booked for serious physical injury at the Murcia Municipal Police Station and has been charged by the police for the offense.
