Quezon city: The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has issued a summons to the drivers and owners of a Ford Everest SUV and a public utility bus (PUB) following a road rage incident in Cavite that gained widespread attention on social media.
According to Philippines News Agency, LTO Chief, Assistant Secretary Markus Lacanilao, initiated a show cause order and a subpoena for the individuals involved to appear before the LTO-Intelligence and Investigation Division in Quezon City on January 14. Lacanilao emphasized the agency's commitment to enforcing traffic laws to ensure road safety and hold accountable those who violate driving regulations.
The summoned individuals are required to provide a written explanation for why they should not face administrative charges of "Reckless Driving" and potential suspension of their licenses for being deemed "Improper Persons to Operate a Motor Vehicle." While the investigation is underway, the Ford Everest has been flagged to prevent any dealings with the LTO.
Additionally, the SUV owner is facing charges for "Compulsory Registration of Motor Vehicle" due to the vehicle being unregistered since its last registration on June 7, 2024. The driver of the SUV is under a 90-day temporary suspension pending further decisions on the case.
The incident, captured on video, shows the SUV driver damaging the wiper blades of the PUB's windshield while shouting obscenities at the bus driver.
