Calamba city: The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has suspended drivers who were involved in a fistfight during a road rage incident in Calamba City, Laguna on Sunday.

According to Philippines News Agency, LTO Chief, Assistant Secretary Markus Lacanilao, announced that both the driver of a Yamaha Mio motorcycle and the driver of an L300 van are temporarily suspended from driving after the incident went viral on social media. Show-cause orders were issued to the registered owners and drivers of both vehicles, requiring them to appear before the LTO Intelligence and Investigation Division (IID) on May 20 to explain why they should not face administrative charges.

The potential charges include 'reckless driving, improper person to operate a motor vehicle,' and for the owner of the Mio, 'compulsory registration of motor vehicles.' Lacanilao stated that both vehicles have been placed under alarm status, and the drivers are ordered to surrender their licenses to the IID, with a 90-day preventive suspension currently in effect.

Lacanilao emphasized the seriousness of road rage, noting it as a significant threat to public safety. He stated, "Whoever is proven to have violated the law will be held liable." He further warned that refusal to participate in the LTO's investigations and summons will be considered as waiving the right to be heard, and investigations will proceed without the input of those involved.

He reminded the public of the importance of road discipline and calm behavior, as every decision made by a motorist could potentially endanger themselves and others.
