Manila: The Land Transportation Office: suspended the license of a transport network vehicle service (TNVS) driver from InDrive after he threatened two passengers with a knife.
According to Philippines News Agency, the incident gained widespread attention after a video of the altercation went viral on social media. LTO acting Assistant Secretary Greg Pua Jr. labeled the driver's conduct as "unacceptable" and emphasized the necessity for immediate measures. Pua remarked, "Maling propesyon ang napasukan ng driver na ito. Hindi hanapbuhay ang hanap nito kundi basag ulo at asunto," suggesting the driver is in the wrong profession and is more interested in causing trouble than working.
To address the situation, the driver received a 90-day suspension of his license, alongside a show cause order (SCO) requiring him to justify why his license should not face revocation. The driver is charged with reckless driving and being an improper person to operate a motor vehicle under the relevant provisions of Republic Act 4136.
Additionally, the vehicle's registered owner has been summoned to explain her potential liability for employing a reckless driver. The incident, as captured by the female passenger involved, began with a heated argument when the driver refused to complete the trip to the passengers' destination. The confrontation continued outside the vehicle, where the driver retrieved a knife from his car and threatened the passengers.
