LTO Takes Action Against Rider in Viral Road Rage Incident

Manila: The Land Transportation Office (LTO) is set to file charges against a motorcycle rider for reckless driving and other administrative violations due to his involvement in a road rage incident that hurt his passenger, and went viral on social media.

According to Philippines News Agency, LTO Chief, Assistant Secretary Markus Lacanilao, stated that the rider, who was operating a Honda Click 125, has been summoned to appear before the Intelligence and Investigation Division (IID). The rider is required to explain why he should not face charges through a show cause order (SCO).

'Kapag may mga insidenteng nagpapakita ng iresponsableng pag-uugali sa lansangan, tungkulin nating tiyakin na ito ay agad na naaaksyunan at nabibigyan ng kaukulang proseso (If there's an incident showing irresponsible behavior on the road, it is our responsibility to ensure prompt action and provide due process),' Lacanilao said.

The registered owner and driver of the Honda Click 125 were summoned and are facing administrative charges such as 'reckless driving' and 'improper person to operate a motor vehicle.'

The driver has been ordered to surrender his license for a 90-day temporary suspension, and the motorcycle has been placed on alarm pending the investigation's result.

A video that went viral on Facebook showed a motorcycle driver recording his ride when a Honda Click 125 bearing a rider and passenger cut him off on a Metro Manila street. The passenger's foot was hit due to the incident. The Honda Click 125 rider then shouted profanities and accused the other rider of causing the altercation.

Lacanilao emphasized that the agency's campaign against road rage, reckless driving, and other dangerous behavior on the road is ongoing and will only intensify.

'Hinikayat ng LTO ang publiko na maging katuwang ng ahensya sa pagpapanatili ng kaayusan at kaligtasan sa mga lansangan sa pamamagitan ng pag-uulat ng anumang paglabag sa batas trapiko at iresponsableng pag-uugali sa pagmamaneho (The LTO calls on the public to be a partner in maintaining order and safety on the road through reporting any traffic violations and irresponsible driving),' he said.

The public may reach out to the LTO and report such incidents through official LTO platforms, including the 'I-Report Mo Kay LTO Chief' Facebook page and website https://ireportmokayltochief.ph/.
