LTO Waives Penalties for Late Registration and Fines in Calamity Areas

Manila: The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has announced the waiver of fines for late vehicle registration and driver's license renewal, along with an extension for settling traffic apprehensions in areas affected by recent calamities.

According to Philippines News Agency, LTO acting Assistant Secretary Greg Pua Jr. stated that this initiative is in line with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s directive to provide maximum assistance to Filipinos impacted by successive storms and the enhanced southwest monsoon, known locally as 'habagat,' which resulted in heavy rains and widespread flooding last week.

In a memorandum signed by Pua, it was specified that the waiver applies to late motor vehicle registration and driver's license renewal from July 21 to 25. The validity of these registrations and licenses is extended until August 8, 2025. This directive has been communicated to LTO regional directors and agency officials across the nation.

The memorandum also addresses penalties for vehicles, including motorcycles, purchased between July 21 and 25 but not yet registered. These penalties will be waived, with the registration deadline set to start on August 8 to avoid late registration charges.

Additionally, the period for settling all traffic apprehension cases from July 21 to 25 has been extended. The final day for settling these fines without penalty will be August 8, 2025.

The memo highlights the impact of three successive weather disturbances: Severe Tropical Storm Crising, Tropical Storm Dante, and Typhoon Emong, which affected approximately 2.7 million people, causing significant flooding, strong winds, and property damage.
